Intarsia Cardina c/o Kersh Style | Double Scoop Tank c/o Kersh Style | An actor's life is a risky one. No guarantee of employment. Constantly on the hunt for that next gig. Spending hours on auditions without being paid. Sometimes working for free. You never know if your show is going to get renewed, if you are going to be in the next episode, or when you will book another job. A lot of actors ask me for advice about this. How do I stay sane in the midst of this? How do I stay positive and motivated? Recently, Geoffrey Owens (an actor known for his role on The Cosby Show) was shamed on social media because he took a job at Trader Joe's to take care of his family. He needed to get a job because they pulled The Cosby Show from air so he no longer received residual cheques that he was depending on to support his family. THERE IS NO SHAME IN HONEST WORK. That seriously broke my heart seeing it and I am so happy to see that since then, he has booked multiple jobs. So how do you stay positive and motivated? By doing things that you have control over. Booking a job = no control. No control over the people that make that decision to say YES. Of course, there are things you can do to set yourself up for success in booking that job (and I'll continue to give advice on that here on the blog) but ultimately, you have zero control. You are prepared, professional, polite, do your very best and then let it go. BUT you have to be able to buy food and pay your rent. Having a side gig is NO BIG DEAL. Actors get embarrassed about it but IT IS NOT FAILING. Taking care of yourself and/or your family is important. Find ways to do it that don't kill you inside. I have had some kind of a "regular" job to make money since I was 14. Heck, I sold knives at one point. I still do other things because this business has its ups and downs. And I want to have a life. Own a home. Take vacations. Enter KERSH STYLE. Sleeveless Floral Dress c/o Kersh Style I recently rediscovered this great Canadian clothing brand. I'm not the greatest at styling outfits but Kersh makes that so easy for me. From super comfy yet stylish outfits to dressy, business style, they have me covered, especially when auditioning! One audition to the next, I never know what that character will be. From playing a deputy one day, to the head of the psychology department the next, to a viking queen. Sometimes I wonder what my neighbours actually think I do.
If you love the clothing as much as I do and want some of their amazing pieces for yourself, check out their latest collection at KERSH STYLE. And now for the main reason for this post. Drumroll please... Did you know that Kersh offers a stylist program? Take control and work on your own terms and schedule - when you want, where you want!
