My audition makeup look or when I actually wear makeup...

For those who have been asking, here’s my makeup look for auditions or when I actually put makeup on. (I’m going to do a skin care routine one sooooooon….) 💄

Foundation - I am a huge lover of Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation!  I get shiny really quickly so this is a great one that I don’t have to over powder.  I recently bought Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation when my luggage got lost.   I love the coverage but have a love/hate issue with how drying it is.  Anyone else??

Concealer - I generally use Tarte Creaseless Under Eye Concealer but am not 100% sold on it.  I’ve heard Tarte Shape Tape is the bomb but haven’t tried it yet.  I picked up the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer with the luggage incident and really love it but again, it’s a bit drying which I don’t love.
Powder - Make Up Forever Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder - love it, swear by it, have used for years.

Eyebrows - have been using Lancome Brow Shaping Powdery Pencil with Benefit Gimme Brow.  Want desperately to try Glossier Boy Brow.

Blush/Bronzer - Ish Contour Kit from my FabFitFun box.

Highlighter - RMS Living Luminizer.  So good.  Put in the arches of my brows, the corner of my eyes.  Sometimes use instead of an eye shodow on my eyelids.

Eyeshadow - currently using the Pure Cosmetics Buff Collection from my fabfitfun box.

Mascara - I curl my lashes then put some Maybelline Great Lash in Royal Blue then put Mac Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara.  It helps to make your eyes whiter but this new Mac mascara which is a game changer!!!

Lipstick - I LOVE Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils - I have about 20.  They are easy to apply, don’t bleed and stay on fairly well.  My two favourite are Sex Machine and Roman Holiday.  I used Walkryie for the entire first season of @Siren.

What are your fav’s right now?? 💋

Aluminum Free Deodorant with no stink...

3/13/2019

Health is very important to me.  It is so important to take care of our bodies and our minds.  I have a history of cancer in my family so I try my best to use products that aren't putting more chemicals into my body.  I finally gave up anti-perspirant and deodorant with aluminum a couple of years ago and found that I got really sweaty and stinky.  It took me a couple of years to find one that covered up the stink.  It's a tough one because being an actress, you can be unusually close to someone for hours at a time. Plus nervous sweats.  Plus running around for 12 hours in 40 degree heat.  This needs some serious coverage.  I have tried all of these brands and found ONE to be the best.  These are my opinions only and am not being paid or sponsored for the reviews.  Do you have one that is your favourite??

Kaia Naturals
 - The Takesumi Detox

Ingredients:  Aqua, Propanediol, Glycerin, Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Root Powder, Sodium Stearate, Silica, Saccharomyces Ferment, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Cinnamomum Camphora (Camphor White) Bark Oil, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Magnesium Hydroxide, Carbo Activatus (Activated Charcoal).

This was the first one I tried.  I bought the travel size because I wasn't really sure if it would work or not.  I'm not sure if I was especially stinky because this was the very first one I tried and was still in detox mode but I used it for about a month and still stinky.  Cost was $10 USD for the travel size.  I give it a 3/5 rating.

Agent Nateur

Apparently, it's won a ton of awards so I was very excited to try.  However, still stinky.  Cost was $21 USD.  I give it a 2/5 rating.

If you follow my instagram, you know I LOVE Weleda Skin Food.  I was very optimistic about this deodorant.  But was really disappointed.  Was again stinky.  Cost is $7.99 USD.  I give it 2/5.

Tom's Deodorant

Ingredients:  Propanediol (Vegetable Derived), Water, Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Zinc Ricinoleate, Glyceryl Laurate, Natural Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Ascorbic acid, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice (Organic), Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil.

Didn't mind it, still very sweaty.  Cost is $4.50.  I'd give it a 3.5/5.

And the winner is.....!!!!!!

Saje Wellness
 - Exotic Crystal Fresh Deodorant

Ingredients:
  • water
  • mineral salts (potassium alum)
  • patchouli (pogostemon cablin leaf oil)
  • palmarosa (cymbopogon martini oil)
  • lavender (lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil)
  • vanilla (vanilla planifolia fruit extract)
  • ho wood (cinnamomum camphora wood oil)
  • sandalwood (santalum album (sandalwood) oil)
  • champa (michelia champaca flower oil)

I don't know what it is in this one but it is the ONLY one I've tried so far that is natural and aluminum free that gets the job done.  NO STINK.  I love it.  When I first tried it, I think it was originally developed for men but I loved the smell.  Cost is $12.95 and totally worth it.  5/5 for me!

Intarsia Cardina c/o Kersh Style | Double Scoop Tank c/o Kersh Style |
An actor's life is a risky one. No guarantee of employment. Constantly on the hunt for that next gig. Spending hours on auditions without being paid. Sometimes working for free.  You never know if your show is going to get renewed, if you are going to be in the next episode, or when you will book another job.  A lot of actors ask me for advice about this.  How do I stay sane in the midst of this?  How do I stay positive and motivated?

Recently, Geoffrey Owens (an actor known for his role on The Cosby Show) was shamed on social media because he took a job at Trader Joe's to take care of his family.   He needed to get a job because they pulled The Cosby Show from air so he no longer received residual cheques that he was depending on to support his family.  THERE IS NO SHAME IN HONEST WORK.  That seriously broke my heart seeing it and I am so happy to see that since then, he has booked multiple jobs.

So how do you stay positive and motivated?

By doing things that you have control over.  Booking a job = no control.  No control over the people that make that decision to say YES.  Of course, there are things you can do to set yourself up for success in booking that job (and I'll continue to give advice on that here on the blog) but ultimately, you have zero control.  You are prepared, professional, polite, do your very best and then let it go.

BUT you have to be able to buy food and pay your rent.  Having a side gig is NO BIG DEAL.  Actors get embarrassed about it but IT IS NOT FAILING.  Taking care of yourself and/or your family is important. Find ways to do it that don't kill you inside.  I have had some kind of a "regular" job to make money since I was 14.  Heck, I sold knives at one point.   I still do other things because this business has its ups and downs.  And I want to have a life.  Own a home.  Take vacations.

Enter KERSH STYLE.

Sleeveless Floral Dress c/o Kersh Style
I recently rediscovered this great Canadian clothing brand. I'm not the greatest at styling outfits but Kersh makes that so easy for me.  From super comfy yet stylish outfits to dressy, business style, they have me covered, especially when auditioning!  One audition to the next, I never know what that character will be.  From playing a deputy one day, to the head of the psychology department the next, to a viking queen.  Sometimes I wonder what my neighbours actually think I do.

If you love the clothing as much as I do and want some of their amazing pieces for yourself, check out their latest collection at KERSH STYLE.

And now for the main reason for this post.  Drumroll please...

Did you know that Kersh offers a stylist program?  Take control and work on your own terms and schedule - when you want, where you want!  Ummm, making money and shopping = no brainer.  So if you are interested in becoming a KERSH STYLIST and want to know more (they are looking for new stylists!)  click HERE.

Be sure to use code TAMMYG when shopping or signing up for their stylist program!

Skincare and the super affordable asper-mask!!

2/10/2019

For this week's self-care Sunday, I am going with the asper-mask because hormones and stress equal breakouts. This mask gives an amazing exfoliation as well as calms the skin and helps dry out pimples. The best part is that you probably have all the ingredients in your house AND it costs less than a dollar to make!  All you need is aspirin, honey and water.

p.s.  I have had this treatment done as part of a facial at a spa for over $100!!!

INGREDIENTS:
5-6 aspirin
1 tbsp. honey
1-2 tbsp. water
Picture
Step one:
Crush the aspirin into a fine powder.
Picture
Step Two:
Put aspirin powder into a bowl with honey and 1 tbsp. of the water.  Add more water if too thick but be careful not to use too much water or it will be too runny and slide off your face.
Picture
Step Three:
Mix the ingredients together.
Picture
Step Four:
Use your fingers to apply the paste to your face and neck.  Avoid your mouth and eye area.  Leave on for 20 minutes.
Picture
Step Five:
Wet your hands and use them to wet your face slightly.  Gently scrub your face (avoiding the eye and mouth area) for a gentle exfoliation.  Rinse well and pat your face dry.  Apply your favourite moisturizer!  You can do this a couple of times a week.  I usually do it once every couple of weeks.

Hope your skin loves it!
